Fragments of an impossible dream
2024 | Artist Book, Analog Photography, Writing
Beirut. Behind the Grand Theatre, in the soft earth, I found an opening. A space without memory, hidden, buried—without beginning or end.
Fascinated by the city's constant metamorphosis, I have always sought its forgotten places, photographing them to preserve a trace before they disappear. This project began with the discovery of an abandoned underground site in 2020, which no one around me had ever heard of, and of which I kept only a distorted memory and a single photograph.
Four years later, in a deserted downtown Beirut marked by barricades and military presence, I returned. Beyond the fences, I entered the ruins again and photographed them on black and white film.
Printed in the darkroom, the images explore a space of contrasts, where shadow and light meet in a quiet dialogue. Through a dreamlike journey of images and words, Fragments of an impossible reveals a forgotten place, both tangible and intangible, suspended between reality and imagination.
