Novecento is a theatrical monologue by Italian writer Alessandro Baricco, first published in 1994. The fascinating and thought-provoking story of an incredibly gifted pianist, Novecento, who never left the ship he was born on.
I imagined a cover and six illustrations for the Italian publishing house Feltrinelli. The idea of using the linocut technique came naturally, as it suggests the poetic atmosphere of the book. Each illustration refers to a key moment of the story. The delicate balance between the black and the white evokes the piano keyboard, a central element of the story.
