Novecento is a dramatic monologue by Italian writer Alessandro Baricco, published in 1994. It tells the fascinating and thought-provoking story of an exceptionally gifted pianist, Novecento, who never leaves the ship on which he was born.
I imagined a cover and six illustrations for the Italian publishing house Feltrinelli. The use of the linocut technique came naturally, as it conveys the book's poetic atmosphere. Each illustration refers to a key moment of the story, while the delicate balance between black and white evokes the piano keyboard, a central element of the narrative.
