Sawt
2019 | Arabic Type Design
Sawt ("Voice" in Arabic)) was designed during the Arabic Type Design - Beirut program, an intensive foundational workshop in Arabic type design, led by award-winning type designers Lara Captan and Kristyan Sarkis. Using both traditional and digital techniques, we were guided through the creation process of a typeface based on principles essential and unique to the Arabic script. Lettering and type design alternated with theoretical and font production sessions, providing a comprehensive foundation for designing high-quality Arabic typefaces.

Inspired by the traditional Kufi script yet reimagined for contemporary readability, Sawt speaks with confidence and weight. Its bold forms make it ideal for titles, posters and stencils.
