Sawt
2019 | Type Design | Intensive Workshop
Sawt ("Voice" in Arabic)) was designed during the Arabic Type Design - Beirut program, an intensive foundational workshop in Arabic type design, led by award-winning type designers Lara Captan and Kristyan Sarkis. Using traditional and digital techniques, we were guided through drawing an individual typeface based on principles that are essential and unique to the Arabic script. Lettering and type design alternated with theoretical and font production sessions to provide us with a comprehensive base for designing high-quality Arabic typefaces.

Inspired by the traditional Kufi script yet reimagined for contemporary readability, Sawt speaks with confidence and weight. Its bold shapes make it ideal for titles, posters and stencils.
